Wood-n-Ware Custom Woodworking and Computer-Based Design |
Wood-n-Ware is an organic fusion of classic woodworking with modern computer technology. Computer-aided design techniques enhance the creation of visually-interesting and structurally-sound wooden creations. The disciplines developed from years of working in wood bring a unique craftsmanship approach to the design of web pages and applications.
Our MissionTo match clients to exactly the products and services they need and desire, rather than forcing them to settle for ready-made compromises. To partner with clients from initial concept, through the design and crafting phases to completion, in order to express their vision through our skills. To make custom-designed creations available at reasonable prices.
Company ProfileEstablished in 1996, the company has grown from a 10 x 20 space to a 1400 sq-ft workshop and storefront in downtown Sidney, Illinois. Owner/craftsman Tom McCowan brings 25 years programming experience and nearly 30 years woodworking and carpentry experience together in Wood-n-Ware. Even though computer-aided design is utilized, much of the woodworking is still done with hand tools. "My favorite furniture style is Arts and Crafts, because it was a bold reply to the mechanization and loss of soul which furniture suffered during the Industrial Revolution. It was a return to craftsmanship and solid functionality, while retaining personality and style. It was robust and subtle at the same time. These are characteristics I strive to incorporate into all my creations, regardless of the medium. I like to think of myself as an 'Arts and Crafts Programmer'." - Tom McCowan
